Hi hello. As Taylor Swift would say: “It’s been a long time coming…” but it really hasn’t been. It’s actually only been a few ways. I wanted to post something over the weekend but things got away from me.
Over the weekend I worked on my writing and got set up on this new platform called “Ellipsus”. So let’s talk about writing platforms…
Like most people… I used Microsoft Word growing up through school. Once Google Docs became an option, that became a favored writing platform for me.
I liked how easy it was to share and get comments on the Google Docs. I enjoyed the ability to do tabs in the documents. It made working on my first manuscript so fluid. So easy.
That was summer of 2022.
I worked on my Manuscript with NaNoWriMo in November that year and, upon winning that challenge, I got a discount code for Scrivener.
The reviews seemed good so I downloaded it and for the next 2.5 years that was all I used. The features on it were so overwhelming at first but once I got comfortable and familiar with it, I discovered how much I loved it. The ability to separate by chapters; the research functions; the character development spaces. I developed so many ideas and techniques through my writing in that software. Still, the drawbacks of not being able to sync backups to a cloud and access from my iPad, phone, and computer at various times to work on projects was always inconvenient.
AI permissions is another thing that… has me always looking at alternative options.
Over the weekend, my friend Emily introduced me to Ellipsus.
Ellipsus is online based so it's really easy to switch between phone tablet, computer or multiple computers because it automatically syncs similar to how Google Docs does.
I’m still learning this system but I will say that it has been really helpful with my new projects.
It also seems to be a lot easier on the editing process. You can send out multiple drafts to different editors that you can then merge together into a final draft.
All together, it’s been fun to start learning this new program.
So let’s talk.
What do YOU use for your writing?
I've been dabbling into Ellipsus on the down-low, after hearing a lot of positive comments, not to mention their anti-GenAI policy which I always appreciate, but I've never heard of Scrivener before 🤔 I feel like there's always something to like about any software, but it's a matter of whether it really suits you personally as a writer that makes or breaks it
